Obsidian name comes from the Latin obsidianus, an erroneous transcription of obsianus, meaning “the stone of Obsius,” the prominent Roman who discovered it. It’s know with a lot if different names like“volcano glass,” “mirror of the Incas”, “Iceland agate” and “apache tears”. It’s also the famous “dragonglass” from Game of Thrones.
Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, formed when lava solidifies so quickly that mineral crystals do not have time to grow.
